Early team news from Eddie Howe – 4 ruled out vs Leeds, 4 could return & a new injury concern

Eddie Howe has issued a fresh injury update ahead of tomorrow’s crucial trip to Leeds in today’s pre-match press conference.

He’s confirmed that Callum Wilson, Federico Fernandez and Isaac Hayden remain out, however it’s hoped Fede will be back soon after he was spotted back in the gym earlier this week.

The NUFC boss has also revealed that Ciaran Clark is ‘nearing a return’ after sitting out our last few games, but Javier Manquillo will be available after missing last week’s 1-1 draw with Watford through suspension.

Matt Ritchie is the latest player to have suffered a new injury, with the wing-back set to be assessed ahead of tomorrow’s game after experiencing a ‘knee problem.’

As for those who could return alongside Manquillo, Howe has confirmed that Jamal Lewis, Jeff Hendrick and Dwight Gayle have all returned to training this week, meaning they could feature at Elland Road if deemed fit enough.

Here’s what our manager has had to say on all of the above:

“We’ve had Jeff Hendrick return to training this week.

“Dwight Gayle is back now but he’s only trained for one day. Really pleased to have him back.”

“Jamal [Lewis] hasn’t had a lot of training but he is back so we’re pleased with him.”

“Matt Ritchie has a knee problem so we’ll have to assess him.

“We’re still missing the long term injuries in Callum Wilson, Fede Fernández and Isaac Hayden.”

“Ciaran Clark is nearing a return.”
