Player ‘tells friends he wants to join NUFC’ & Sky Sports confirm interest in surprise loan deal

It may be matchday, but that hasn’t stopped the media reporting on potential transfer activity on Tyneside as we approach the final week of the January transfer window.

Starting with Football Insider, they claim that Dele Alli has now told friends he’s keen to complete a move to St James’ Park after a frustrating few seasons at Spurs.

They report claims that he’s been given a ‘glowing report’ about Newcastle from former England teammate Kieran Trippier; someone who he also knows well from their time together at Tottenham.

The same piece also states that the North London club are open to a loan or permanent deal, with talks believed to be underway over a potential move after our attempts to sign Jesse Lingard hit a ‘stumbling block.’

Elsewhere, Sky Sports have revealed that their colleagues at Sky Germany have confirmed our interest in signing Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno on loan.

Graeme Bailey at 90min was the first person to report on our interest on Thursday, with the 29-year-old said to want out after losing his place in Mikel Arteta’s side to Aaron Ramsdale.

The Gunners could sanction a January move for the German international if they bring in New England Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner as back-up to Ramsdale, yet Sky are reporting that Leno may prefer a move to Tyneside this summer IF we manage to stay in the Premier League.

For me, Alli is a riskier signing than Lingard, however he’s an undoubted talent who could arrive with a point to prove and the bit between his teeth, giving us that goal scoring No 10 we’ve often lacked.

As for Leno, he’s a better ball-playing GK than Dubravka and could also improve us, but it sounds like this may be one we have to revisit this summer if we do manage to beat the drop.

  1. V:
    Why buy shyte

You’re talking shyte if you think that of Ali – that lad could improve our team without question.

Much like Lingard, he’s a fantastic footballer who is not getting the game time and has become disillusioned. Both would be perfect for us & I think Howe would get the best out of them for sure.
