NUFC set for talks over £50m deal today as Toon plan to pip Villa to huge signing – Report

The Daily Mail claim Newcastle look set to hold talks with Brighton today over the potential signing of Yves Bissouma.

Aston Villa are also showing interest in the midfielder, who has just 18 months left on his current contract, yet the piece claim we are hoping to pip Steven Gerrard’s side to a deal.

Bissouma is away on international duty with Mali for the African Cup of Nations and has developed into one of the Premier League’s best holding midfielders in recent years under Graham Potter.

A price tag of around £50m is reportedly putting Villa off, with another Toon target – Marseille youngster Boubacar Kamara – also on their radar.

A move for Bissouma would be a huge statement and he fills a desperate void in our midfield that has lacked steel all season.

Neither Jonjo Shelvey, Joe Willock or Sean Longstaff are holding midfielders and Isaac Hayden is not good enough at top-flight level.

An energetic, defensive-minded, midfield enforcer to protect the backline is exactly what we need and I couldn’t think of many realistic options better than Bissouma right now.

  1. I’ll bet a Curly Wurly that we JUST end up with Burnley and Bournemouth rejects / old friends –

Woods more like Plank + Fraser does run around like a lap dog but when it comes to passing the ball or Infront of goal he just ain’t got any quality!
