Good & bad news for NUFC as update arrives on Lingard, Bakker, Ramsey & four others

The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards has revealed that Newcastle have been showing interest in Southampton centre-back Mohammed Salisu, but was told last week that “it’s not going to be possible…”

The North-East reporter has also offered a disappointing update on our pursuit of Dutch left-back Mitchel Bakker, saying he’s been informed today that this is another deal that’s not going to happen – despite the club agreeing a deal in principle with Bayer Leverkusen over the weekend.

As for the more promising news, Luke Edwards says there is ‘growing confidence’ that we will secure a deal for Jesse Lingard.

The player is yet to find out whether he’ll be allowed to leave on loan (Man Utd prefer a permanent deal due to him being out of contract at the end of the season), however it seems we may have offered them a loan fee too tempting to turn down.

It’s also interesting that Lingard is currently in Dubai for a warm-weather break of his own, meaning he is just a short flight from Newcastle’s training camp in Saudi Arabia should a deal be struck.

Elsewhere, Edwards reveals that we’ve also opened talks with Dele Alli, although it remains to be seen if we’ll be able to sign both him and Lingard as the club step up their attempts to sign ‘as many as five players this week.’

Another name mentioned in the piece is Aaron Ramsey. It’s said we’ve put the feelers out to the Juventus midfielder and received a ‘positive response’ back, meaning things could ‘progress quickly over the next 72 hours’ if we decide to pursue with Welshman.

Last but not least, The Telegraph state that we’ve rekindled our interest in Burnley centre-back James Tarkowski.

It’s said that we are continuing to negotiate a deal for Sevilla’s Diego Carlos, however a move for Tarkowski might be one to watch now he’s entering the final few months of his contract at Turf Moor?
