Newcastle enter surprise talks over £12m deal for giant Senegal international – Report

According to new reports, Newcastle United have joined the race to sign Olympiacos star Pape Abou Cisse.

The 6ft 6′ centre-back is currently at the African Cup of Nations with Senegal and is believed to have impressed our recruitment team, with the 26-year-old already on our radar after some standout displays at club level in the Champions League and Europa League.

Now, an ‘exclusive’ from The Sun’s Kostas Lianos claims that we have held talks with his agent over a potential January move to St James’ Park, with players at AFCON now coming into focus given the tournament is nearing the latter stages.

The piece states that the fee discussed during those talks was around the £12m mark, and it’s said Olympiacos would be willing to do business based on those terms.

Cisse is a giant at 6ft 6′, however he’s said to possess an impressive turn of speed for a player of his stature – something that may have attracted us given our current pool of centre-backs lack athleticism or recovery pace.

With Senegal set to face Cape Verde at 4pm tomorrow in the last 16 of AFCON, Cisse could be one to watch for Newcastle fans…
