‘Breaking news’ late last night claims NUFC’s relegation rivals set to appoint new manager

Late last night, some ‘breaking news’ from talkSPORT claimed that Watford are now set to name Roy Hodgson as their new manager.

This comes after Claudio Ranieri became the eighth managerial casualty of the 2021/22 Premier League season on Monday afternoon, with the Italian sacked following a 3-0 defeat to Norwich that meant he’d picked up just seven points from 13 games in charge.

Now, just hours after Ranieri’s dismissal, talkSPORT claim that Hodgson is the red hot favourite to take over at Vicarage Road, saying he could even be appointed as early as today after his odds tumbled from 5/1 to 1/5 in the space of a few hours.

The likes of Sky Sports, The Telegraph and The Mail have also confirmed that the 74-year-old has been approached by Watford chiefs, with him out of work and considering a return to top flight management after leaving Crystal Palace at the end of last season.

Interestingly, this wouldn’t be the first time Roy Hodgson has worked under the Pozzo family; who are now searching for their 13th manager in 10 years at the club.

The former Fulham, Liverpool and England boss was actually at Udinese 21 years ago, however that partnership with the Pozzo’s lasted all of 17 games, as he was sacked six months into the job for criticising the club!

That aside, he is a pragmatic manager with huge experience, a track record of improving defences and keeping teams in the division.

With Watford currently one point behind ourselves with a game in hand – a trip to Burnley a week on Saturday – what would you make of Hodgson’s potential appointment?
