Sky Sports: Diego Carlos rejects Sevilla offer & Crystal Palace enter race to sign loan target

Earlier today, Sky Sports revealed that Newcastle United are ready to walk away from a deal to sign Diego Carlos, being sick of Sevilla’s ever-changing asking price.

A few hours on, Sky’s Kaveh Solkehol has just revealed that the 28-year-old has now rejected a new contract at Sevilla.

He claims that they have offered to ‘almost double’ his wages – attempting to match the contract we have put to the Brazilian – however he has turned their proposal down.

Sky Sports claim that he is still keen to complete a move to St James’ Park, however it seems we’ll now be looking elsewhere unless the La Liga side agree to lower their demands.

Interesting, they also report that Sevilla are surprised we won’t pay the alleged £38m asking price for Carlos when we’ve just spent £25m on a 30-year-old Chris Wood…

Elsewhere, Sky Sports also report that Crystal Palace are registered their interest in signing Manchester United midfielder Donny Van de Beek.

The Telegraph revealed earlier this month that we had submitted a loan bid for the Dutchman, only for him to turn down the chance to spend the second half of the season on Tyneside, so it would be another frustrating blow for our new owners if the former Ajax star ended up at Selhurst Park.

“We’ve got a bit of a stand-off between Newcastle and Sevilla. The state of play at the moment is that, if Newcastle want to sign Diego Carlos, they have to offer €45m. So far Newcastle have refused to pay more than about €30m.

“We found out this afternoon that Sevilla have offered Carlos a new contract, and it would mean his wages would almost double and he would earn pretty much exactly what Newcastle are offering him.

“But he does not want to sign this new contract – he wants to go to Newcastle, although he respects Sevilla.”
