According to The Mail’s Craig Hope, Newcastle will go back in for Dan Burn after having an initial offer rejected by Brighton today.
The North-East reporter revealed just a few hours ago that we had an £8m bid turned down for the versatile defender, who could be keen on a return to Tyneside as a boyhood NUFC fan who was on the club’s books as a kid.
It’s worth noting that the Brighton and Hove Independent claim that the Seagulls could cash in if a bid in excess of £10m arrives, with Burn 29 and approaching the final 12 months of his current deal.
Elsewhere, Hope also claims that we are still hopeful (pun not intended) of signing Bayern Leverkusen left-back Mitchel Bakker – despite The Telegraph reporting that this deal was all but dead earlier this week.
He reports that a £16m deal is expected to go through if the Bundesliga side can secure a replacement for the 21-year-old.
The Daily Express’ Ryan Taylor has added to this by reporting that we have ‘revived talks’ with the Dutchman and have already discussed personal terms.
L’Equipe have also released a piece this afternoon, stating his agent is in the North East as we speak following a €20m offer (£16.5m) from the club.
So, it seems we’re pushing to sign Burn – who would add height, versatility and confidence on the ball to our back line – and are back in for Bakker to bolster our options at left-back; a problem position over the years.
