£12.5m move for Galatasaray star now on NUFC’s radar as club are forced to switch targets – Report

According to new reports, Newcastle have now turned to Turkey in their search for new centre-backs.

This comes from TuttoMercatoWeb, who claims that we are considering a move for Galatasaray’s Marcao after accepting defeat in our attempt to sign Sevilla’s Diego Carlos.

The report claims that the 25-year-old is seen as an attainable option, as the Super Lig side would sell if an offer of around €15m (£12.5m) arrived,

Marcao is another Brazilian and, like Carlos, is known for his quality on the ball and aggressive style. He’s also a left-footer, which is interesting when we’ve been linked with a host of left-sided centre-backs in Botman, Badiashile and Burn.

That said, the 6ft 1′ defender has had disciplinary issues over the years. Not only has he been booked 45 times over the past three and half seasons, he’s also picked up three red cards – one of which saw him banned for EIGHT games after he hit out at a Galatasaray teammate last year!

18 months ago, reports in Turkey claimed that he was closing in on a £15m move to St James’ Park, with The Chronicle later discovering that he’d just started following the club on Instagram.

So, it this a media outlet putting two and two together based on our need for a centre-back and making five, or are we really considering a late bid now Diego Carlos looks set to say at Sevilla? We’ll soon find out!
