Burnley in talks to sign former Toon target, £7m bargain & Andy Carroll with Chris Wood cash – Report

It looks like relegation rivals Burnley are pushing hard to get deals done over the final few days of the window as they look to replace Chris Wood.

As reported by The Mail, they are believed to be in talks to sign Wout Weghorst – the giant Dutchman who has bagged over 50 goals in his last two and a half seasons at Wolfsburg.

This is a name Newcastle fans might be familiar with, as the 6ft 6′ striker has been linked with a move to St James’ Park on more than one occasion over the past 18 months, with head of recruitment Steve Nickson said to be a big fan.

The 29-year-old is said to be ‘desperate’ to complete a late move to the Premier League and could replace Chris Wood at Turf Moor if they can agree terms with the Bundesliga side.

Elsewhere, the same piece reveals that Andy Carroll’s arrival on a free transfer is being discussed after he impressed during a two-month stint with Reading, while a bargain move for Dinamo Zagreb winger Mislav Orsic is close to completion.

The Croatian international scored 24 goals for Zagreb last season and has bagged an impressive eight goals and five assists in his last 18 Europa League appearances – also scoring a Champions League hat-trick against Atalanta not so long ago. At just £7m, this seems like a snip for Sean Dyche.

With Burnley one of our biggest relegation rivals, being just three points behind us with THREE games in hand, let’s hope they don’t spend that Chris Wood cash too wisely!
