L’Equipe: Newcastle submit new Bruno Guimaraes bid – Lyon finally ready to accept?

Yesterday, L’Equipe reported that Newcastle United had submitted a £33.5m (€40m) bid for Lyon’s Bruno Guimaraes.

The likes of Sky Sports and The Athletic soon claimed big ‘breaking news’ that this bid had been accepted, however Lyon released a statement soon after to say that this was ‘false information.’

Now, L’Equipe have revealed that we have just lodged new and improved bid of £35m (€42m) + £8m (€10m) in bonuses.

They add to this that we are ‘very close’ to an official agreement, stating that Lyon are ‘no longer far from convinced’ by our bid for the Brazilian.

Based on what others have reported in reaction to the above, it sounds like the structure of payments and potential bonuses later down the line is the only thing left to discuss, with the player said to be ‘keen’ on a move and has been pencilled in for a medical in Brazil on Friday (he is due to represent his country in Ecuador tonight).

L’Equipe also state that personal terms won’t be a problem if our bid is accepted, as there’s believed to be a ‘verbal agreement’ that we’ll quadruple the player’s salary.

Let’s hope our latest offer is enough and we can get this one wrapped up ASAP!
