According to Sky Germany, Newcastle United are attempting to strike a deal for Mainz defender Jeremiah St. Juste.
They report that we’re currently in discussions with the Bundesliga side, who are willing to let the 25-year-old leave if their €15m (£12.5m) asking price is met.
Interestingly, he is represented by CAA Base Ltd – the same agency who look after NUFC new boys Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood…
St. Juste is an athletic defender who has been one of Mainz’s standout performers since sealing a £7m move from Feyenoord back in 2019, receiving his first call up to the Dutch squad last year as a result.
With a top speed of 36.63 km/h, the Dutchman actually overtook Bayern’s Alphonso Davies (36.51 km/h) to become the fastest player in the Bundesliga since the start of data collection in 2011 – a hugely impressive feat given he is a 6ft 1′ centre-back!
That said, St. Juste would also offer versatility, with him capable of playing at right-back or as a defensive midfielder; two roles he often operated in during his time in the Eredivisie.
With a deal for Diego Carlos appearing all but dead and the club pushing to sign TWO centre-backs following a recent bid for Dan Burn, could this be the latest defender we are trying to bring to St James’ Park?
