Newcastle discussing shock move for Everton star with club braced for late bid – The Telegraph

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United are considering a late bid for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

In his latest piece released on Friday morning, Mike McGrarth reports that we have discussed a surprise move for the 24-year-old ‘this week.’

Arsenal are also believed to be keen on the England international, with Aubameyang frozen out by Arteta and both Lacazette and Nketiah out of contract this summer.

The Telegraph report that it’s ‘unlikely’ Everton would sanction any move away for the 6ft 2′ forward, which is no surprise when they are currently searching for a new manager and at risk of being dragged into a relegation battle.

After all, we will move just one point away from the Toffees should we beat them at St James’ Park in our next Premier League game on February 8th.

Interestingly, the piece also states that our new owners are eyeing the signing of a ‘long-term striker’ who can lead our attack for many years to come, which appears to explain our interest in Calvert-Lewin – not that this one seems likely to happen in the final few days of the transfer window!

Arsenal have been stepping up their search for a striker as Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette are out of contract in the summer and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been dropped from the first team.

Calvert-Lewin, along with Real Sociedad’s Alexander Isak, are on Arsenal’s list of targets.

  1. To do any deal you need:
Player wants to move + Willing Buyer + Willing Seller.
Do you think those things are in place here??

  2. No, they won’t sell him. It would be delicious if we did and those (REALLY “deluded”) scouse turds started squealing if we did take him and they dropped into relegation places

  3. Interesting thought.
If a player has a release clause in his contract, and a club meet that clause with just 2 or 3 days left of the window, are the players club in any position to stop the deal going considering they have no time to replace him?
