Newcastle pushing to sign FOUR more players after Bruno Guimaraes - The Telegraph
The Telegraph's Luke Edwards has revealed that Newcastle United are pushing hard to bring in up to FOUR more players before Monday's 11pm deadline.
He's confirmed that Lyon accepted NUFC's improved offer - worth over £40m if all future add-ons are met - for Bruno Guimaraes last night, but has been told that the club are also working on deals for two centre-backs, a left-back and a 'young striker.'
Sources close to the club have told The Telegraph that it is 'unlikely' all of the above will get done before Monday's deadline, however it seems our new owners are refusing to rule out anything as they work around the clock to get deals done.
Interestingly, Edwards thinks Jesse Lingard's proposed loan move to Tyneside isn't dead just yet, saying it's quite telling that neither the player or Newcastle have given up just yet and plan to resume talks with Man Utd.
As for our centre-back targets, Blyth-born Dan Burn is believed to be keen on a return to the North-East, with NUFC set to submit a second offer after having an initial '£9m bid' rejected by Brighton.
Liverpool's Nat Phillips is another name mentioned in the piece. Steve Nickson is said to be a big fan and the player is available, making a late move for the 24-year-old another one to watch.
Edwards claims that the arrival of a new left-back is low down the priority list, but it seems a move for Mitchel Bakker is in the pipeline if Bayer Leverkusen land a replacement before Monday's deadline.
Dele Alli is then mentioned as a back-up option to Lingard, while Arsenal's Eddie Nketiah - another 'Nickson target' - is said to be someone else we're monitoring as Howe would ideally like another young striker.
As for Guimaraes, here's a picture posted on his agent's Instagram story late last night, showing them boarding a flight back to Brazil ahead of his medical:
