Sky Sports: NUFC official arrives in Brazil to seal Bruno deal & Burn keen to sign ahead of new bid

Sky Sports have revealed that Newcastle United’s Head of Recruitment Steve Nickson has just landed in Brazil to seal the signing of Lyon’s Bruno Guimaraes.

With several NUFC officials currently in Saudi Arabia at our warm weather training camp, it’s believed that Nickson will meet with the 24-year-old ahead of his medical in South America.

Sky’s North-East correspondent, Keith Downie, also adds that we are set to pay £33.5m plus a further £6.5m in add-ons for the highly-rated midfielder.

Interestingly, he also reveals that we are set to go in with a second bid for Brighton’s Dan Burn after having an initial £8m offer turned down, stating that the Blyth-born defender is interested in a return to Tyneside.

Here’s what he’s had to say on all of the above:

Keith Downie on Guimaraes:

Newcastle Head of Recruitment Steve Nickson is in Brazil to seal the signing of Bruno Guimarães

‘We’re told the fee is £33.3m plus £6.5m in add-ons

‘Agreement on initial fee was reached on Wednesday, however Lyon still wanted to negotiate add-ons. That’s now sorted.’

Keith Downie on Dan Burn:

Newcastle are expected to go back in for Brighton defender Dan Burn.

The club have had an initial offer in the region of £8m rejected for the 29-year-old.

Burn is a Newcastle fan and we’re told he’d be interested in a potential move back north.’

With Guimaraes’ arrival appearing imminent, let’s hope we can now make progress on deals for a few new defenders.

A centre-back was at the top of our priority list heading into the January transfer market and remains a must.

Elsewhere, reports suggest we are also eyeing a left-back (although a move for Bakker may now be off) and another attacking option, with the likes of Jesse Lingard, Bamba Dieng, Darwin Nunez and Duvan Zapata all linked.
