Sky Sports: Everton eyeing double deal ahead of Newcastle clash – Player rejected NUFC move

It looks like Everton could have a new manager AND a new signing in place for the trip to St James’ Park a week on Tuesday.

After being interviewed alongside the likes of Vitor Pereira and Duncan Ferguson, Sky Sports report that Frank Lampard has now been formally offered the job at Goodison Park.

He is expected to accept and be named the new Toffees boss in the next 24 hours, seeing him replace Rafa Benitez on Merseyside.

Not only that, Sky Sports claim that Everton are also in talks to sign Man Utd midfielder Donny Van de Beek, having hijacked his proposed move to Crystal Palace.

The Telegraph revealed that the Dutchman rejected a loan offer from Newcastle two weeks ago, all because he ‘didn’t want to join a club in the middle of a relegation battle’ – which is rather ironic when we’d be one point behind the Blues should we beat them in 10 days time!

As it happens, the same outlet also reported back in October that Lampard held talks with our Saudi-backed owners about potentially replacing Steve Bruce.

Now, a few months later, it looks like his first game back in Premier League management could be at St James’ – only in the Everton dugout!

Let’s hope we can get the job done when the two sides meet a week on Tuesday, whether they have a new manager and new midfielder or not!
