Newcastle hoping to pull off late double deal after signing Burn & Bruno – The Telegraph

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle are hopeful of signing Aston Villa’s Matt Targett and Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah before the Monday’s 11pm deadline.

Bruno Guimaraes was unveiled as a Newcastle United player on Sunday night and Luke Edwards believes that an official announcement on Dan Burn is imminent now a £13m fee has been agreed with Brighton.

However, it looks like the arrival of a left-back and striker is still on the agenda – and could take our January spending to beyond £100m if both Targett and Nketiah join.

Edwards claims that a potential move for Jesse Lingard is not dead and one we’re still ‘keeping an eye on’ incase Man Utd lower their crazy demands, leaving Aston Villa and Arsenal duo have been described as the ‘most likely arrivals’ on deadline day.

He insists that neither deal is straightforward, yet there is ‘growing confidence’ that both could sign before 11pm tomorrow.

It is not clear whether a move for Targett would be a permanent deal or loan – he’s fallen down the pecking order following Lucas Digne’s arrival – but it’s believed ‘significant progress’ was made over the weekend after a deal for Dutch left-back Mitchel Bakker broke down.

The former Southampton full-back may seem like some ‘squad player’ at Villa now they’ve replaced him with Digne, yet this is someone who was named their players’ player of the season last year, being a solid defender who is decent on the ball and capable of delivering quality crosses into the box.

As for Nketiah, he’s out of contract this summer and in need of game time, meaning a move away could benefit all parties. It would also be great news for Joe Willock, who is close friends with the former England U21 star from their time together in North London.
