Newcastle ‘likely’ to strike surprise deal with West Ham if Irons seal £15m signing – Report

According to The Mirror, Newcastle expect to bring in Issa Diop before Monday’s 11pm deadline if West Ham can sign a replacement first.

Darren Lewis reports that the Hammers are set to launch a fresh £15m bid for Marseille centre-back Duje Caleta-Car – a deal which is expected to have a big knock on effect for Newcastle United, should it go through.

If the Croatian arrives at the London Stadium, The Mirror believe that Diop is ‘likely’ to sign at St James’ Park, with Eddie Howe ready to firm up his interest in the Frenchman.

Elsewhere, The Sun’s Alan Nixon also released a report last night confirming our interest in the former Toulouse star, claiming they’d be willing to sell the 25-year-old if an offer of around £10m arrived.

It had been suggested that David Moyes would refuse to sell the 6ft 4′ defender after Angelo Ogbonna was ruled out for the season, but with Kurt Zouma fit again and Caleta-Car eyed up, it seems Diop could leave if the latter arrives from Marseille in the next 48 hours.

  1. As much as botman and Carlos would have been statement signings and very good one’s think we should have targeted premier league players from the off yes Bruno gumarais is a statement when finally announced trippier was huge but to pull six are seven off in January of that ilk was going to be difficult especially the position where in showing my age a bit here but always remember majority of Keegan’s signings players who weakened teams around you and players who weren’t first choice with points to prove think we should have went down that road to start with still today and tomorrow to go thou so could be some surprises

  2. Not sure if “lets hang around and wait and see if West Ham sign Duje Caleta-Car on the last day of the season” is a transfer policy we want our club ro be adopting.

  3. Can you honestly imagine Premier League clubs selling anyone to us without taking our eyes out!
The very ones who didn’t want the PIF takeover to happen because of all the money.
YET if the price is big enough they will take it, bloody hypocrites that’s what they are!
Foreign clubs may hike the price up as well, but at least they didn’t spit the dummy out when the takeover happened.
I would be doing all the transfer business abroad especially in the summer, wouldn’t give any of the Premier League rivals a penny.

  5. Norm Laidlaw:
Believe we already have an attacking midfielder if allowed to play further forward in Willock, however we do need a clinical finisher and a left back.
