Wolves star emerges as late target for NUFC, with club preparing big-money bid – Report

Newcastle United are preparing to launch a last-minute bid for Wolves centre-back Conor Coady, according to new reports.

This comes from the Daily Star, who claim in their latest ‘exclusive’ that we are prepared to pay in excess of £25m for the defender.

It’s said that Wolves would be ‘prepared to take a pragmatic view’ on any interest in Coady – who turns 29 next month – but would only consider any late offer that was ‘too good to turn down.’

They report that Eddie Howe has prioritised players with Premier League experience as we look to bring in at least one new centre-back before Monday’s 11pm deadline.

Brighton’s Dan Burn is also a target following two failed bids, while the same piece states that Issa Diop will become a late option if West Ham sign a replacement in time.

Personally, I can’t see Wolves even contemplating a late move away for their captain and most consistent defender when they are currently 8th in the Premier League and just two points away from the European spots.

Here’s what Coady told talkSPORT last October when asked for his views on the Saudi-backed takeover at St James’ Park:

“It’s got everyone talking.

“Newcastle are an absolutely incredible football club. A huge football club. You feel that when you go up and play there.

“You welcome the Premier League becoming bigger and better.

“It’s interesting to look in from the outside and see what’s going on there.”

He’d be a brilliant signing, but this one feels like a non-starter with less than 48 hours of the window remaining…

  1. Newcastle will be stopped by the ‘big’ boys, having already held meetings I can see them thinking they are a threat to them and will pull out the strings to stop them.
They don’t like teams trying to break up their top for club or even top six, watch out for action especially the human rights angle.
