Newcastle attempt to hijack Dele Alli’s Everton move after Lingard deal is denied – The Athletic

According to The Athletic, Newcastle are attempting to hijack Dele Alli’s proposed move to Everton now a loan deal for Jesse Lingard has completely collapsed.

A move for Lingard had been looking promising, with us increasing our offer just as Man Utd’s demands were beginning to come down.

However, The Athletic reveal that the Red Devils have now told the 29-year-old he will NOT be allowed to leave before tonight’s 11pm deadline, forcing Newcastle to look elsewhere.

It seems we’ve wasted no time doing exactly that, as David Ornstein has just announced that we’ve made a last-ditch bid for the Tottenham midfielder – just as he was expected to undergo a medical at Everton.

He reports that we have offered the player a loan move to St James’ Park, where as any move to Goodison Park would consist of a permanent deal – being an initial ‘free transfer’ that will move up to £10m once he’s played 20 games, according to The Telegraph.

Personally, I fear Daniel Levy will opt against doing us a favour and wonder if Alli would also prefer to work under Frank Lampard, but you never know!

Let’s hope Kieran Trippier can get on the phone to his old mate at Spurs and convince him to make a late U-turn!
