‘Senior source’ at NUFC says club will stop January splurge once these three sign – George Caulkin

According to The Athletic’s George Caulkin, Newcastle United’s incoming transfer business looks set to be wrapped up if and when Dan Burn, Matt Targett and Hugo Ekitike complete moves to Tyneside today.

He claims that a ‘senior source’ at NUFC has told him that this triple signing should bring the curtain down on our January spending – which could end at £115m if all three go through.

Caulkin accepts that it’s a ‘never say never’ situation with 11 hours still remaining until the window slams shut, however it looks like we’ll stop at six signings and focus on outgoings soon.

Should this be true, our January business could look like this come 11pm tonight:

  • Kieran Trippier – £12m
  • Chris Wood – £25m
  • Bruno Guimaraes – £40m
  • Dan Burn – £13m
  • Matt Target – Loan with option to buy?
  • Hugo Ekitike – £25m

Here’s what Caulkin’s had to say:

ITV reporter Chris Conway has also issues a very similar message to Newcastle United fans, saying a fourth signing has been described as “highly unlikely” – suggesting the likes of Jesse Lingard, Issa Diop or Dean Henderson won’t be coming:
