Duvan Zapata is a late loan option for Newcastle United, according to Sky Sports‘ Keith Downie.
The North-East correspondent – who is currently camped outside the club’s Benton training base – claims that the prolific Colombian is available if we are prepared to pay a £5.5m loan fee.
Downie says Atalanta won’t stand in the players’ way if we were willing to do a deal, although he insists that this would be a straight loan with no obligation to buy included.
Zapata has been linked with a move to St James’ Park on several occasions this month, with Sky Sports reporting that he is someone that has ‘been mentioned’ in transfer talks.
This comes after deadline day moves for Reims’ Hugo Ekitike and Man Utd’s Jesse Lingard both failed to materialise, seeing us make a desperate loan bid for Tottenham’s Dele Alli just before his proposed medical at Everton.
Back to Zapata – who has 12 goals already this season – here’s what Downie’s had to say:
He’s not a late option though is he?!
He like Lingard & Ekitike have been talked about for a large part of Jan and we haven’t got it done.
I won’t hold my breath.
