£15m man set for Newcastle United exit after being dropped by Eddie Howe – The Telegraph

According to The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards, Jamal Lewis looks set to seal a late loan move away from Newcastle United.

This comes after both The Athletic and The Mail’s Craig Hope have confirmed he’s set to be left out of our 25-man squad for the remainder of the season.

The 24-year-old started four of Eddie Howe’s first six games in charge, playing well in home games against Norwich and Burnley, however he hasn’t featured since being forced off with a hamstring injury in December’s 3-1 defeat at Liverpool.

Since then, Paul Dummett has returned to full fitness, Javier Manquillo has filled in admirably when called upon and Matt Targett sealed a late loan move from Aston Villa, leaving Lewis way down the pecking order at left-back.

Reports on deadline day claimed he rejected late moves to Birmingham and Stoke, however he’s now being linked with Turkish giants Trabzonspor – as a move abroad is the only option now the English transfer window has closed.

Here’s what Luke Edwards has had to say just a few moments ago, confirming Lewis looks set to go overseas for some much needed game time:

Lewis showed huge promise at Norwich, hence why we spent £15m to bring him to St James’ Park in the summer of 2020.

Hopefully he finds the right club, gets regular game time for the remainder of the season and comes back a better player.

With Targett only here on loan, Dummett out of contract at the end of the season and Ritchie not a left-back, he can still have a future at NUFC.
