The hidden clause in Bruno Guimaraes’ £40m move & the surprise terms he & Trippier agreed to

Sky Sports’ Keith Downie has confirmed that there is NOT a relegation release clause in Bruno Guimaraes’ contract at Newcastle United.

A bold move from the Brazilian – and one that shows how confident he is we’ll survive – with Kieran Trippier’s deal also including no summer escape route; even if both would be highly unlikely to play in the Championship.

Elsewhere, one clause was revealed by Lyon when Guimaraes’ move to Newcastle United was officially confirmed over the weekend.

The Ligue 1 side’s statement revealed that they inserted a 20% sell-on clause into his contract at NUFC, meaning the French giants will be due a fifth of any future fee we may go on to receive for the 24-year-old.

Let’s hope it is a long, long time before we need to consider that and he is a resounding success at St James’ Park.

If his eye-catching cameo in Brazil’s 4-0 win over Paraguay was anything to go by last night, it looks like we might just have signed an absolute star!

  1. It’s 20% from any capital gain, so it’s only if we sell him for more than what we bought him for. Big difference!

Not sure where you got that from but a standard sell on clause is based on percentage of transfer fee. It’s nothing to do with capital gains.
