NUFC eyeing pre-contract agreement to sign midfielder on a free transfer this summer – Report

According to reports in Germany, Newcastle United already have their eye on a summer bargain for Bundesliga midfielder Florian Grillitsch.

This comes from Kicker – one of Germany’s leading outlets – who claim that ourselves and Arsenal are looking to strike a pre-contract agreement with the Hoffenheim star.

The Austrian international is a 26-year-old defensive midfielder (who can also operate at centre-back) and is now represented by the same agency (ICM Stellar Sports) as Toon trio Jonjo Shelvey, Javier Manquillo and Ciaran Clark.

He’ll also know Joelinton very well, having played in the same Hoffenheim side as the Brazilian during Julian Nagelsmann’s time in charge.

This isn’t the first time Grillitsch has been linked with a move to St James’ Park either. German outlet BILD claimed we were ‘seriously interested’ two years ago, while The Sun’s Alan Nixon reported in November last year that we were hoping to complete a cut-price deal in January.

That didn’t happen, but it seems he might just be one to watch this summer now he’ll be up for grabs on a free transfer…

  1. I think we’ve had enough of pony-tailed plonkers who don’t perform.

On the subject of our new superstar defensive midfielder, having watched a few videos and I reckon he spends way too much time dribbling out of his own box. He won’t get the kind of time on the ball that he’s used to in France.
