Guimaraes reveals Amanda Staveley's exciting sales pitch & brilliant message from Brazilian trio

by Olly Hawkins · 7 February 2022, 17:00

Bruno Guimaraes has revealed how Newcastle United's new owners made him believe a move to St James' Park was an opportunity he couldn't turn down last month.

Our new £40m man believes we are destined to become a 'big power in world football' under the new ownership, revealing how their 'main objective' in the comings seasons is to qualify for the Champions League and 'eventually' win it once we have secured our Premier League status.

During a first press conference held at St James' Park today, the 24-year-old also explained how a trio of Brazilian's currently playing in the Premier League also convinced him that Newcastle was the place for him.

He reveals that Chelsea's Thiago Silva, Man City's Gabriel Jesus and Man Utd's Alex Telles all told him that he would love how 'passionate' Newcastle fans are, with each of them selling Premier League football and the St James' Park atmosphere.

Guimarares also discussed his relationship with Joelinton, his first chat with Eddie Howe and how former Mag Claudio Cacapa encouraged him to make the move.

Here's what he had to say when speaking to the press this afternoon:

Guimaraes on the project sold to him by NUFC's new owners:

“Newcastle project is more than interesting.

“We are going to be a club with big power in world football.

“The owners were very up front [when we had talks], that this season the idea is to stay in the Premier League.

“However, in the future, the main objective in the seasons to come, is to be in the Champions League and eventually to win the Champions League.

“I’m very happy and I’d like to thank the fans for their affection and all the messages they sent me.

“I hope we can have a great second half of the season.

Guimaraes on the prospect of playing Premier League football:

“I’m really excited, it has always been my dream to play in the Premier League.

“This is a club with a fascinating project, great tradition and passionate fans.

“I’m 100% focused on doing my best and my objective [this season] is to remain in the Premier League, we know it is difficult, but we have a really good team and we have made some good signings this season.

“I’m aiming to go to the World Cup [in Qatar in November / December] and fans can be rest assured that I will give my all on the pitch.

“It is very very beautiful this stadium [St James Park] and I am very happy to be here.”

Guimaraes on Howe:

"He asked me where I'd be most comfortable playing.

"He wants to have possession of the ball.

"I told him I'd be happy to play on goal if I have to because I want to help the team!"

Guimaraes on Joelinton:

"He sent me a message when I was on my way here.

"He is helping me as much as possible and we spend all our time together.

"I hope we have a great Brazilian double act here at Newcastle."

Guimaraes on the advice he received from three Brazilian's currently playing in the EPL:

"I spoke to Gabriel Jesus, Thiago Silva, Alex Telles.

"They told me about the Premier League, about how difficult it is to play at Newcastle, how passionate the fans are and I didn't have to think twice about coming here."

Guimaras on speaking to former Mags Mirandinha and Claudio Cacapa:

"I would like to send my best wishes to Mirandinha and to say thanks [for his advice].

"I'd also like to send my regards to Claudio Cacapa, who is a coach at Lyon.

"He encouraged me to come here and told me so much about the club."
