Two new signings to start & one missing? – Predicted Newcastle side to face Everton tonight

We finally return to action tonight, facing Everton at St James’ Park.

It is a great opportunity to win successive matches for the first time this season and a chance for Eddie Howe to build some much needed momentum.

A win against the Toffees will drag them back into the relegation fight too. Below, we predict our potential starting eleven.

Martin Dubravka – It has been a period of improvement for Dubravka. This is an important time for him, as the club are looking at new goalkeepers in the transfer market. We will need Dubravka back to his best for our fight against relegation.

Kieran Trippier – The first signing of the new era had a very strong January and he already looks to be one of our most important players. He is needed in both halves of the pitch and his set piece delivery could cause problems for Everton.

Jamaal Lascelles – Many will want him to be dropped, but it is clear that Eddie Howe wants to get the captain back to his best. His quality in the air will be important against Dominic Calvert-Lewin, especially if Dan Burn can’t start.

Fabian Schar – We could easily see Burn come straight into the team, but the news about his toe injury suggests that he may not be rushed in for this one. This gives a chance to Fabian Schar, who was excellent against Leeds United. It would be harsh for him to drop out.

Matt Targett – The deadline day signing will come straight into the team. This is a chance for him to find his stride for us, before he is forced to miss the game at the weekend. He should give us an extra dimension down the left side.

Jonjo Shelvey – This should be a chance for Shelvey to perform and help us to another win. He will be aware of the threat of Bruno Guimaraes to his own position in the team. Shelvey has played well under Howe and there is reason to believe he is finding consistency.

Bruno Guimaraes – He may not be risked from the start, but his quality and time training with the team means he could be given a start. Guimaraes is our most exciting January signing and it will be fascinating to see how he can perform.

Joelinton – There may be a desire to drop Joelinton for either Joe Willock or Sean Longstaff. Our midfield looked more balanced against Leeds when he left with an injury. However, Joelinton has been excellent under Howe. He adds bite to the midfield.

Ryan Fraser – There has been steady improvement in his performances under Howe. During the break, he got a goal in the first team friendly in Saudi Arabia. The only thing missing is his end product. He can cause problems for Everton.

Chris Wood – The latest news about Callum Wilson isn’t positive. There is a lot of pressure on Chris Wood to score the goals. He hasn’t shown much of a goal threat in his first two matches, but there have been positive signs of his overall play.

Allan Saint-Maximin – The Frenchman has been excellent in his last couple of matches. He got the goal against Watford and he caused a lot of problems for Leeds with his direct approach. If we are to win matches, he remains our most important attacking player.
