Mehrdad Ghodoussi’s post-match message & the Amanda Staveley ‘handshake’ that’s gone viral

Newcastle United co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi has sent a rousing post-match message to Toon fans following last night’s 3-1 victory over Everton.

After admitting he’s ‘still smiling’ after the big win, he’s thanked supporters for their ‘incredible’ backing – saying “you are Newcastle United!”

Here’s what he had to say after the game, with these tweets followed by the hashtags ‘loudest roar in the country’ and ‘onwards and upwards.’

‘I’m still smiling

‘To our supporters last night….you are “Newcastle United”, you were incredible!

‘A massive thank you to a fantastic performance by the team and coaching staff, who gave it their all.’

An amusing moment was then captured on the BT Sport cameras just seconds after the final whistle, with Amanda Staveley attempting to shake someone’s hand after the game – only to end up playing a short game of Rock Paper Scissors as one wanted to shake hands and the other went for a fist bump!

Watch the awkward encounter below that has left fans either laughing or squirming on social media:

Awkward handshakes aside, this was great to see after the full-time whistle, seeing Staveley, Ghodoussi and Jamie Reuben share a hug as we moved out of the bottom three!

  1. Excellent win. Only worry the hamstring suffered by Trippier. He is such an important player especially facing Digne in the coming Sunday crash with Villa.
