NUFC line up bargain deal for Belgium international as contact is made over summer move – Report

According to reports on the continent, Newcastle are eyeing up a bargain move for Lyon defender Jason Denayer.

The centre-back is set to become a free agent this summer, and leading Belgian outlet Het Nieuwsblad report that we have been in contact with the player over a potential move to St James’ Park.

The report claims that we have ‘gathered information’ on the 26-year-old centre-back, who has so far refused to sign a new contract offered to him by the Ligue 1 side.

Napoli, Barcelona and Juventus are also said to have shown interest in the Belgian international, who knows England well following a stint in Man City’s Academy and a loan spell at Sunderland, not to mention the fact he played alongside Bruno Guimaraes in France.

Sky Sports reported back in December that he was a player on our radar ahead of the January transfer window, however he suffered an ankle injury at the turn of the year and is only just edging closer to full fitness now.

With a few free agents likely to be on the agenda to balance our spending, a move for Denayer could be one to watch this summer if we stay up.
