NUFC risk losing player Howe is a ‘big fan’ of as Napoli, AC Milan & PL rivals eye bargain – Report

According to The Mail, a host of clubs are plotting a summer move for Fabian Schar now his future on Tyneside hangs in the balance.

The Swiss international has been a revelation under Eddie Howe – who is believed to be a ‘big fan’ – however we are at risk of losing him for nothing at the end of the season, with his contract up at the end of the season.

It was reported on Monday that the club could offer the 30-year-old with a new two-year-deal, but it looks like we’ll be one of several options available to the centre-back in the coming months.

The Mail report that Napoli, AC Milan, Sevilla and Valencia are all keen on the defender, stating that Napoli tried to sign Schar over the January transfer window.

A host of unnamed Premier League clubs are also believed to be monitoring his situation, knowing he is a potential bargain and talented player and who is proven at this level.

Schar has started all but one of our 13 games under Eddie Howe and is clearly someone he’d like to keep, yet it wouldn’t surprise me if he moves on this summer.

After all, he would’ve lost his place in the side had we signed the likes of Diego Carlos and Sven Botman last month – and he won’t be keen to warm the bench next season in a World Cup year…

It’d be nice to keep him, as he’s a classy player who has found consistency under Howe, but he might just fancy a new challenge if his game time on Tyneside is about to become more limited?
