New owners planning summer overhaul at NUFC as Rennes star emerges as early target – Report

Newcastle are eyeing up a move for exciting Belgium international Jeremy Doku, according to The Chronicle.

Lee Ryder reports that head of recruitment Steve Nickson is a big fan of the 19-year-old winger, stating that the club’s scouting team have been watching the Rennes star closely in recent months.

He also writes that our new owners are planning a summer spending spree if we stay up, claiming that the club will look to ‘strengthen in every position’ over the next transfer window – suggesting a major overhaul could be on the cards.

Back to Doku – who can play down either flank – the wide man was electric at last summer’s European Championships, with his frightening pace and ability to beat a man seeing him cause Italy huge problems in Belgium’s Quarter Final clash with the eventual winners.

He is still raw and has work to do on his final product, however it’s easy to see why the club are taking a close look at the former Anderlecht star who bagged four goals and eight assists last season.

This comes after Palace’s Ebere Eze was linked earlier today, while The Chronicle also reckon that we haven’t given up hope of bringing Hugo Ekitike to Tyneside this summer.
