Saint-Maximin suffers injury – Out of West Ham clash & could miss more crucial games – Report

If Kieran Trippier’s absence wasn’t bad enough, it’s now emerged that Allan Saint-Maximin will be missing for today’s clash with West Ham.

As revealed by Newcastle World’s Jordan Cronin, the Frenchman could be missing for ‘2-3 weeks’ and did not travel with the squad to London yesterday.

Details of his latest injury are not yet known, however it’s another huge blow for Eddie Howe, meaning we will be without Kieran Trippier, Javier Manquillo, Callum Wilson, Federico Fernandez and Matt Ritchie for today’s game.

The injury also means he’s highly likely to miss next weekend’s trip to Brentford, with our meeting with Brighton on March 5th and trip to Southampton on March 10th also games he could well sit out of if the winger is missing for ‘2-3 weeks.’

So, who replaces him today?

Do we move either Joelinton or Willock higher up the pitch and hand a start to Guimaraes? Or will Howe keep his midfield three the same and bring in one of Murphy or Almiron?

Time will tell, with team news coming at 11.30am, but one thing is for sure – this looks set to be a huge test for the players today now we’re missing two of our best players who’ve been crucial to our success in recent weeks.

  1. Ok Maxi out is a blow but it is also a good opportunity to go 4, 5, 1 with Wood as the target man holding the ball and allowing 3 of the 5 midfielders to join in attacks.

  2. Possibly Gayle with Wood upfront might offer some threat, or Fraser and Wood with Guimaraes into midfield and going 4,4,2
Without St Max West Ham will be able to press higher up the pitch, bit of a worry about keeping a clean sheet never mind scoring.
The midfield and defence will definitely have to step up today, fingers crossed!
