Newcastle official spotted at Europa League clash – Report reveals player we could be watching…

According to reports in Portugal, a Newcastle United official was spotted at Porto’s clash with Lazio in the last 32 of the Europa League last week.

This comes from local newspaper A Bola, who report that one of our scouts were present to watch a potential summer target; although it is not yet clear who that is.

However, Sports Witness have revealed one Porto player who was linked with a January move to Tyneside just a few weeks ago and could fit the bill – and that’s Zaidu Sanusi.

Portuguese outlet Jornal de Notícias reported back on the 22nd January that he was a player of interest, stating that we were considering a €20m move for the Nigerian international.

So, it could well be him we were taking a close look at – after all, Matt Targett is only a loan signing and we lack left-backs with Lewis, Dummett and Ritchie all facing uncertain futures – however it is worth looking at all the players who were on display last Thursday.

Here’s the two sides who played in the Europa League clash that ended 2-1 to Porto thanks to a brace from Toni Martinez:

Porto XI: Diogo Costa; João Mário, Mbemba, Pepe, Sanusi; Uribe, Grujić; Otávio, Pepê; Fábio Vieira, Toni Martínez.

Lazio XI: Strakosha; Marušić, Luiz Felipe, Patric, Radu; Lucas Leiva, Milinković-Savić, Luis Alberto; Zaccagni, Felipe Anderson, Pedro.

Sanusi defending against former West Ham winger Felipe Anderson.
