Last night was been a mixed one for Newcastle United fans looking over their shoulders at other results at the bottom.
The bad news for us was that Burnley’s strong run continued thanks to a surprise 1-0 win over Spurs – handing Sean Dyche a huge win over a side that won at Man City just a few days ago.
Elsewhere, Watford suffered a heavy home defeat to Crystal Palace – losing 4-1 at Vicarage road – while Leeds were hammered at Anfield, seeing Liverpool wallop the Whites 6-0.
Here’s the updated Premier League table following last night’s results, meaning we are now just two clear of third bottom Burnley following their impressive win over Tottenham:
It’s a concern to see Burnley’s good form continue, however the above table highlights just how huge Saturday’s trip to Brentford is.
Beat them and we’re not only ahead of a Bees side who’ve lost SEVEN of their last eight games, but we’ll also have two games in hand on Thomas Frank’s side.
As for Everton and Leeds, both are bang out of form – winning just once in their last 10 league games combined.
Everton face Man City on Saturday night, while Leeds welcome Spurs to Elland Road earlier that day and Watford travel to Man Utd.
Burnley play twice in the coming week as they have a game in hand, meaning they’ll face a trip to Crystal Palace over the weekend followed by a meeting with Leicester at Turf Moor next Tuesday night.
