NUFC scout spotted watching Portugal international – One to watch this summer if we stay up?

Portuguese outlet Jornal de Notícias have revealed that Newcastle United had scouts watching Portuguese international João Palhinha during Sporting Lisbon’s 2-2 draw with Porto earlier this month.

This is not the only outlet reporting on our interest, with local newspaper Record claiming that we are one of several clubs eyeing a move for a player who is ‘very likely’ to leave this summer.

We were actually linked with Palhinha back in January, as a possible alternative to Bruno Guimares, so talk of us continuing to scout the 26-year-old makes you wonder if further midfield reinforcements will be on the agenda in a few months time?

A number of other Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, have apparently also been keeping tabs on the 6ft 3′ spoiler believed to be available for around €30-€35m, according to these reports in Portugal.

Whether we up our ‘interest’ and make a summer move remains to be seen. But in the meantime, we can look forward to seeing more of Bruno bolstering our midfield – with Palhinha possibly one to watch out for in the future.

Here’s a few clips of the midfielder in action:
