Newcastle set to make move for South American star this summer after cheeky bid failed – Report

According to an ‘exclusive’ from Jacque Talbot, Newcastle are planning to reignite their interest in Colombian forward Duvan Zapata this summer.

The club had previously shown interest in the player in January, with the report revealing that a loan bid with an option-to-buy for €26 million was rejected by Atalanta; which is no surprise given he’s their top scorer and star player.

With his contract running out in 2023, it’s believed that the Serie A side could cash in on their star striker who is approaching the final 12 months of his current deal in Italy.

Newcastle were heavily linked with many striking options in January – the Ekitike deal in particular which collapsed on deadline day – but only managed to sign Chris Wood; who is yet to score his first goal for the club.

Managing 12 goals in 23 appearances this season, the experienced Zapata – who is 30-years-old – is still in his prime and will could be a target for many clubs this summer, with West Ham also showing interest in the final few days of the January window.

With Callum Wilson’s devastating injury record, a move for the prolific South American could make sense, although I don’t expect us to break the bank for a player entering the more senior years of his career.
