According to The Chronicle, Newcastle are considering a bargain move for Belgium international Jason Denayer this summer.
The centre-back is a former teammate of Bruno Guimaraes’ following their time together at Lyon and looks set to be available on a free transfer after failing to agree a new deal with the Ligue 1 side.
Lee Ryder claims that he is a player who ‘fits the bill’ and could be pursued alongside Lille’s Sven Botman; a player we are ‘already preparing’ a summer move for.
The same report states that Denayer is open to a return to England and ‘likes the area’, having lived in the North-East before following a loan spell at Sunderland back in 2017.
Fellow Belgian Jeremy Doku is another name mentioned in the piece, with The Chronicle confirming that we are also keeping a close eye on the Rennes winger – suggesting a return to raiding France could be on the cards at Newcastle United!
As for Denayer, he’s 26, Lyon’s vice captain and an experienced international and a centre-back known for his impressive athleticism, meaning he could be a very solid coup should we look to sign him on a free transfer this summer.
