Newcastle United are confident January targets Sven Botman and Jesse Lingard will end up on at St James’ Park this summer, according to i news.
In his latest piece, Mark Douglas claims that the club believe they will ‘tempt both’ January targets to sign for the club in the coming months – providing we are a Premier League club come June.
Lingard almost arrived on deadline day but was messed around by Manchester United, so he’ll now be up for grabs on a free transfer once his contract expires at the end of the season.
As for Botman, he’s already confirmed that he’ll be leaving Lille this summer – also calling Newcastle a “very nice project” following our series of failed bids in January.
Elsewhere, the i also reveal what senior sources at St James’ Park are saying about Dan Ashworth’s imminent arrival.
They believe his arrival as our new director of football will be the club’s “Big Bang moment”, feeling he is the man who will ‘knit Newcastle lofty ambitions together’ and put together a strategy for what promises to be a huge summer on Tyneside.
Douglas also reveals that a CEO – who will ‘likely come from outside the world of football’ – should join in the coming months, feeling ‘others will follow’ once Ashworth’s arrival is announced.
