Garth Crooks makes huge Eddie Howe claim and names NUFC star in his Team of the Week

Garth Crooks believes Eddie Howe is a contender to be named Premier League Manager of the Season after our incredible rise from rock bottom to seven points clear of safety.

He’s also praised our new owners, feeling they have got every major decision “spot on” since they bought the club from Mike Ashley.

Elsewhere, the BBC pundit has named Fabian Schar in his Premier League Team of the Week for the second week running after he followed last week’s assist and clean sheet at Brentfor with a rock solid display against Brighton that saw him score our all important second.

Crooks even reckons that the Swiss centre-back “might make his team of the season” if he keeps performing so well, highlighting just how well he is playing under Howe!

Here’s what he had to say after selecting the defender in his latest TOTW; which features former Mag Ivan Toney, several Man City stars and three Chelsea players following a 4-0 win at Burnley:

Last week Fabian Schar was making goals, this week he’s scoring them. It was great movement and a brilliant header and the Magpies are flying.

It’s the second consecutive time that Schar has made my team of the week and if he keeps on playing like this he might make my team of the season.

It’s not that long ago Newcastle were in the bottom three and fighting for their lives.

I don’t know who is advising the new owners but they have got all the major decisions absolutely spot on since their arrival at St James’ Park.

As for Eddie Howe, he must be a candidate for manager of the season.
