The past three days couldn’t have gone much better for Newcastle United – leaving us seven clear of the drop zone and priced at a massive 16/1 to now go down.
Not only did we secure a big win against an out of form Brighton on Saturday, we saw FIVE of our six relegation rivals fail to pick up a single point over the latest round of Premier League fixtures.
The past 72 hours have produced the following results, seeing all but one (Brentford’s win at Norwich) working in our favour:
- Leicester 1-0 Leeds
- Newcastle 2-1 Brighton
- Burnley 0-4 Chelsea
- Norwich 1-3 Brentford
- Watford 2-3 Arsenal
- Tottenham 5-0 Everton
That last result felt significant, leaving Everton in deep trouble and dire straits ahead of our trip to Goodison Park next Thursday; especially if they fail to beat Wolves on Sunday.
After a weekend of results that couldn’t have gone much better for Newcastle United, here’s the bookies’ relegation odds (via Sky Bet) as of Tuesday March 8th, followed by an updated Premier League table:
- Norwich – 1/33
- Watford – 1/7
- Burnley – 10/11
- Leeds – 13/8
- Everton – 10/3
- Brentford – 4/1
- Newcastle – 16/1 (!)
In comparison, here’s what the odds looked like back on December 1st – just a day after our frustrating 1-1-1 draw at home to Norwich:
- Norwich – 2/9
- Newcastle – 8/15
- Watford – 10/11
- Burnley – 1/1
- Leeds – 5/1
- Brentford – 13/2
- Southampton – 13/2
- Crystal Palace – 10/1
From as good as gone in the eyes of many to marching on to safety in March!
What an incredible job Eddie Howe has done.
