Eddie Howe now closing in on Premier League history at Newcastle United

Of all the Eddie Howe stats that have emerged over the past few months, this might be the most impressive one if he manages to pull it off.

As revealed by Charlie Bennett – a former NUFC Blog writer currently at The Chronicle – Newcastle United are on course to become the first team in Premier League history to survive relegation after failing to win any of their first 14 games.

Looking back, Swindon (15 games), QPR (16 games) and Sheff Utd (17 games) all had longer winless runs and were relegated, while no team has survived after failing to win any of their opening 13 games, as Norwich and Derby both went down.

Our first win of the 2021/22 season came at the 15th attempt, coming via a 1-0 victory over Burnley back in December.

So, if Eddie Howe keeps us up – the bookies have us at a massive 16/1 to go down now we’re SEVEN clear of the bottom three – we will beat Everton’s record set in 94/95 (12 games) and make Premier League history.

From bottom of the league, winless and six points from safety under Bruce to 14th, eight games unbeaten, five wins in the last six and seven clear of danger under Howe. Incredible.

Let’s hope we can move a step closer to history with a good result at Southampton tonight!

  1. Eddie Howe and his backroom team best signings of the season, legend in my book, team doomed for relegation revitalised to a proper team who work there bollocks off every game and make every Geordie proud again x
