Eddie Howe reacts to two costly VAR decisions at Chelsea - He's not held back & has one question...
Eddie Howe has been speaking to the press following today's 1-0 defeat at Chelsea - and it's fair to say he's not a happy man, saying they "make a mockery of VAR."
Officials at Stamford Bridge and Stockley Park let us down not once but twice this afternoon, refusing to punish Kai Havert's elbow on Dan Burn with a deserved red card and ignoring a stone wall penalty after Trevoh Chalobah was clearly caught pulling Jacob Murphy's shirt in the box.
Both decisions went against us and it was than man Havertz who had the last say, with the German scoring in the 89th minute to hand Chelsea the win.
Here's what Howe told Sky Sports after the game, questioning why on earth VAR hasn't advised the referee to look at the pull back on Murphy via the pitch-side monitor:
"It could have been a red (for Havertz), but I can't look past the penalty.
"I'm hugely disappointed and don't know how they have reached that decision.
"It's a clear penalty.
"Jacob Murphy's had his shirt ripped off his back near enough!'
"I can't understand that it's not been given, or the ref has not been asked to go to the monitor and review his decision, because, if he does, he realises he’s got it wrong!”
"That makes a mockery of VAR!"
Eddie is spot on. Why oh WHY was the referee not told to take a second look at both decisions?
