Steve Bruce now hoping to strike double deal with Newcastle United this summer – Report

As reported by The Mirror, West Brom boss Steve Bruce would be interested in bringing Newcastle duo Dwight Gayle and Sean Longstaff to The Hawthorns.

Longstaff is in danger of leaving on a free this summer – although Eddie Howe has expressed interest in discussing a new deal with him – while Gayle looks highly likely to be moved on.

Despite a 1-0 win over leaders Fulham last night, West Brom look likely to miss out on a playoff spot, leaving Bruce eager to rebuild this summer in hope of mounting a promotion bid next season.

Gayle is no stranger to the West Midlands side – he spent the 2018/19 season on loan from Newcastle, scoring 23 goals in 39 games in the Championship.

The 32-year-old has been out of favour at Newcastle for a while – only making five Premier League appearances this season – and will almost certainly be looking for a new club at the end of the season.

Since Longstaff’s breakout season under Rafael Benitez, the midfielder been on a downward trajectory – a player once rumoured to be worth £50 million to Manchester United, now in more recent times linked to a £1 million move to Everton.

However, with the revival of the likes of Joelinton, Ryan Fraser and Fabian Schar under new manager Eddie Howe, Sean Longstaff could still play a role for his hometown club.

He impressed in a rare start at Chelsea on Sunday and may be given another chance to shine if Joelinton and Shelvey miss tomorrow’s trip to Goodison Park.

Gayle to West Brom could have legs, but I can’t see Bruce having much joy with Longstaff; even if he does end up leaving the club this summer.
