Toon eyeing Kieran Trippier’s former teammate who is ‘open’ to Premier League move – GOAL

According to GOAL, Jan Oblak is be ‘open’ to a move to the Premier League this summer – and Newcastle United are keen to bring the Atletico Madrid stopper to St James’ Park.

We are said to be one of the only top flight sides who’d be willing to afford the goalkeeper, however it remains to be seen if he’d be willing to swap Champions League football in Spain for this exciting new project on Tyneside.

The 29-year-old has been at Atletico Madrid for almost eight years now – making 341 appearances for the club – but is said to be an admirer of the English game.

Last year, Oblak won Player of the Year as well as Best Goalkeeper in a season where he kept 20 clean sheets and helped his side to win the La Liga title ahead of Barcelona and Real Madrid.

With just 18 months remaining on his contract, the Slovenian could be available for a cut-price fee, although he would need a lot of persuading to come to St James’ Park due to his ambition to continue competing for major honours.

While manager Diego Simeone would be reluctant to let his number one keeper go, Oblak has been criticised for his recent form and Atletico’s defence has been nowhere near the quality it was during their title-winning season.

Maybe Kieran Trippier can give his former teammate a text to see if he’d be willing to make the move he did in January!

Oblak still confident Atletico can reach Champions League last 16 despite Liverpool loss
