Newcastle plot €20m move for Ligue 1 playmaker – but West Ham & Watford also keen – Report

According to an ‘exclusive’ from Football Transfers, Newcastle and West Ham are battling to sign Nantes star Ludovic Blas.

They report that the club held ‘preliminary talks’ with the Frenchman in January and are very interested in securing a deal which could be worth around €20 million in the summer.

The 24-year-old has 12 goals and two assists in 31 appearances so far this season in his attacking role and has helped propel his side into seventh place in Ligue 1 after finishing 18th last year.

With his contract running out in 2023, it is likely that this will be his last season at Nantes, as the club will look to cash in on the former France youth international while they still can.

The report reveals that Watford are also showing interest in the midfielder; however, Blas isn’t sold on a move to a side who look likely to slip into the Championship next season.

Blas typically plays in a traditional number 10 role – but could also offer depth in a more central position – and would be a good fit for this Newcastle side after failing to secure a deal for Jesse Lingard on deadline day.
