According to The Mirror, Newcastle United have shown interest in Everton and England defender Ben Godfrey as manager Eddie Howe is keen to bolster his defensive options.
The 24-year-old has had a fairly inconsistent season, making 19 appearances in the league so far as Everton’s poor defensive record has dragged them into a relegation battle.
However, Howe is said to be a ‘big fan’ of Godfrey; who impressed in their crucial 1-0 victory over Newcastle last Thursday where he covered fairly comfortably at left-back.
The England international signed from Norwich for £25 million in September 2020 and The Mirror claim he’s been a target of ours since January.
With wages not an issue on Tyneside, it is very likely that Godfrey could ask for a move in the summer should Everton fail to retain their Premier League status.
That said, with three years remaining on his contract, the Toffees would be in a position to demand a high fee for his service – particularly if they were to avoid relegation.
