Newcastle dealt fresh blow as bad news arrives on Fabian Schar – Report

It looks like Fabian Schar could be facing a spell on the sidelines after some concerning claims emerged from his homeland earlier today.

According to Swiss outlet 20 Minutes, the centre-back was forced to leave his national team’s training camp on Thursday morning and return to Tyneside for treatment after injuring his a adductor muscles.

They report that he had been training away from the group since the ‘beginning of the week’, but has now been ruled out of their upcoming friendlies against England and Kosovo.

Eddie Howe actually admitted after our 2-1 win over Southampton earlier this month that Schar was “managing a groin problem”, however he went on to play 180 minutes in our next two games against Chelsea and Everton.

We await further news on this matter, however we’ll have to hope this injury isn’t a bad one for the 30-year-old and that exclusion from Switzerland’s upcoming international friendlies is more of a precautionary measure.

That said, the fact he’s been managing and existing issue and has been training away from their first team as a result suggests he’s unlikely to face Tottenham a week on Sunday, as things stand.

Hopefully a slightly more encouraging update emerges from the club in the coming days, with Schar being one of our most reliable performers since Eddie Howe took the job.
