According to new reports, Fulham are planning a summer move for Matt Targett if and when they seal promotion back to the Premier League.
This comes from TEAMtalk, who claim that the Cottagers want to bring their former loan star back to London ahead of their return to the top flight.
Targett impressed during a season at Craven Cottage back in 2017/18, guiding them to promotion via the play-offs, and he’s been equally good during his time on Tyneside so far.
The Chronicle report that we have an option to sign the left-back for £15m this summer following talks with Aston Villa in January, however it remains to be seen if Fulham’s interest would change anything.
They are currently top of the Championship and don’t look likely to let their lead slip, being 14 points clear of third place thanks to 35 league goals from former Mag Aleksandar Mitrovic.
Personally, I am convinced Targett would opt for a permanent move to St James’ Park over a return to newly promoted Fulham, but any decision may come down to the game time on offer?
That said, if he keeps playing as he has been under Eddie Howe, there’s no reason why he can’t be first choice at Newcastle for the next few seasons.
