Club officials spotted watching ‘Rolls Royce’ captain as NUFC prepare to launch bid – Report

According to Football Insider, Newcastle are preparing a summer bid for Lloyd Kelly – the Bournemouth centre-back being watched closely by Toon scouts in recent months.

The 23-year-old was brought to the South Coast from Bristol City by Eddie Howe back in 2019, meaning he is already a player the NUFC boss knows very well.

We have reportedly sent scouts to watch the England youth international – who has been made captain of the Cherries – at every single Bournemouth game recently, suggesting there is serious interest.

With Kelly being a left-sided centre-back, it makes you wonder if he’s our plan B should reported top target Sven Botman end up elsewhere following rival interest from West Ham and AC Milan.

Former Bournemouth manager Jonathan Woodgate referred to the player as a ‘Rolls Royce’ while former Bristol City manager Lee Johnson claimed he ‘looks an absolute beast’ during his time at Ashton Gate.

Football Insider state that a move for the young defender was always on the cards whether we faced relegation or not, however, with our Premier League safety looking far more likely, it looks like we’ve ramped up our interest in the England youth international.

One to watch in the coming months – although Scott Parker will be hugely reluctant to lose his skipper and star defender if they end up sealing promotion back to the top flight this summer!
