Newcastle United release 4-man shortlist for player of the month award – Who gets your vote?

Newcastle United have nominated Dan Burn, Bruno Guimaraes, Fabian Schar and Matt Targett for March’s player of the month award.

The award will go to the best performer in our four games against Brighton, Southampton, Chelsea and Everton, seeing us pick up two 2-1 wins and two 1-0 defeats along the way.

With three of the nominations being defenders, it is easy to see the effect Eddie Howe has had on this team and the transformation into one of the most improved rearguards in the Premier League.

Dan Burn has largely been the people’s favourite since returning to his boyhood club, adding leadership, grit and a calming presence to a previously edgy back line.

However, in both defeats against Everton and Chelsea, the 29-year-old made defensive errors which ultimately cost us the game and may make it difficult for him to pick up the award.

Both Matt Targett and Fabian Schar have been very consistent members of the team in recent weeks. Targett impressive with his crossing ability and rock solid defending at the other end, while Schar is almost a like a new signing under Howe.

Finally, Bruno Guimaraes scored one of the Premier League goals of the month at Southampton and has been all action in each of his three starts – adding a real playmaking quality to our midfield that has been missing since the likes of Yohan Cabaye left.
